Laird Hamilton and crew tackle Jaws on Big Monday

Wednesday, December 16, 2009

Oxbow team riders Laird Hamilton, Dave Kalama, Jason Polakow, Levi Siver, Duane Desoto, Kaï Lenny, Manu Bouvet gathered yesterday on the mythical spot of Jaws for the biggest swell of the last ten years.

Meteorological maps did not leave any doubt that a huge swell was coming to Maui this week. The tension became stronger, the photographers, cameramen and Oxbow team riders were getting ready. The organisation is at the height of the event: jet-skis, helicopters, boats… everything needed not to miss the session of the decade.

On Monday, with the arrival of the swell, the tow-in team started facing the first waves (14 meters high), which were not strong, but very vicious: surfboards broken and 3 jet-skis damaged. Laird Hamilton also rushed to the Jaws, becoming one with the wave. His feeling of the wave is perfect… Maestro strikes again! … and tomorrow what? Jaws can be even stronger tomorrow.
